Frequency of Hepatitis B in Thalassemia Major Patients

Background: Thalassemia is a set of inherited hematological illnesses caused by mutations in the genes that code for globin. Regular blood transfusions extend lives thalassemia patients, but they also increase danger blood-borne illness infections. Objective: The current study was conducted to check frequency and risk factors hepatitis B virus (HBV) infections among β major patients. Methods: over period 3 months from November 2021 February 2022 department center CMH Rawalpindi. consists patients aged 6 15 years including both male female Their venous taken transmitted laboratory, Armed force institute pathology Rawalpindi, surface antigen test (HbsAg). demographic information gathered, their age, gender, number received each year Hepatitis vaccination status. Results: Out 100 there were 45 who 55 female. patients' ages span years, with mean age difference 11.20 standard deviation 5.56. In three months, 22.7 6.6 SD. Patients under ten 50 percent time, beyond time (50 percent). Five (5%) total tested positive B. 18.2 5.6 Thirty (30%) out not immunized. Conclusion: Frequency beta minimal (less than 5 per 100) seen our study. To reduce future TTI, development strong national regional policies on safe transfusion procedures, VNRD-based transfusions, universal quality-assured donor screening are recommended.
